Gre mantra for good scores

1.) Book your exam date for New revised GREwell in advance to ensure that you get the desired date, center and time slot , this way you can concentrate more on studies.
2.) Try to get the Barron’s New GRE book, Kaplan New GRE book and solve as many exercise problems as possible and then take some practice GRE tests provided by ETS Power prep software and various other resources.
3.) Power Prep software is the official testingsoftware of GRE given by the GRE official company ETS, so in that take the 1st test and based on that score, start preparing toward your weakest parts of GRE .
4.) In the last 3-4 days try to take the Test-prep 2nd test and this way you could estimate the range of your score.
5.) In the Last few days, don’t start anything new. This will make your GRE worse.
6.) Don’t try to become the King in Overnight,so please do not prepare for GRE in the Last night, Take rest.
7.) Don’t Worry too much of your exam, which by the way increase your temper and so try to remain calm and composed on the test date. Just treat this as any other exam. Donot take it lightly, and do not over strain yourself.
8.) No negative marks- so try to guess as many unknown question as possible, rather than leaving it blank.
9.) Utilize the breaks in between the different sections effectively, to relax yourself and it would help you to concentrate more for the next section.
10.) In this new GRE there are 5-6 sections as specified in my previous posts, you have:
*. 1 analytical writing section with 2 tasks ofissue and Argument essay.
*. 2 GRE verbal sections with 20 questions ineach section.
*. 2 GRE Quantitative sections with 20 q questions in each section.
*. 1 experimental section of either GRE verbal or GRE Quantitative section.
11.) In case if you are very sensitive to minordisturbances, then utilize the headphone provided to absorb the undesired sounds caused during your exam.
12.) Try to utilize your given time effectively; don’t spend too much time on a single question, time management is the key to your success, so split-up your time accordingly.
13.) All the questions carry equal marks, try to utilize the time effectively.
14.) Double check your questions, as most ofthe GRE questions have some minor traps in it and answer accordingly.
15.) Don't try to guess your experimental section, because you may end up wrong, so treat all the sections equally.

6 Most Important Alphabets. .

It is important that u read the words of 6 alphabets for a better score. .

A  P  S  R  T  C

The above 6 covers about 1000-1200 words of the total GRE words.
The test takers need to make sure that they cover major parts of the words starting with the above alphabets

It is not completely true that the words will appear from only these alphabets on the original test (Rumor of GRE).However, covering these alphabets is important as most recurring GRE words are covered when u read these words.

Types of Financial aid?

Financial Aid is awarded to student in 2 different forms.
*. Assistantships
*. Fellowships (or Scholarships)
Lets looks in detail about different types Assistantships and Fellowships available and how they are awarded.
Assistantships
Ph.D. and Master’s students are awarded assistantships, which fall into four general categories:
*. Teaching Assistant (TA)
*. Research Assistant (RA)
*. Graduate Assistant (GA)
*. Graduate Research Assistant (GRA)
These awards are typically administered by fields and departments.
To get assistantships, generally students will work as teaching assistant or take part in research.
Students with assistantships typically receive the following benefits
*. Monthly Pay
*. Tuition Fee Waiver (or Instate Fees)
*. Health Insurance Coverage
Teaching Assistants (TA)
A teaching assistant is an academic appointment in support of the teaching of a course. Teaching assistants may assist in the teaching a section of a course, lead discussions, and/or lead laboratory sections.
For International Students High TOEFL Scores of TSE (or equivalent) scores is required to getapply for TA’s.
Graduate Research Assistantships (GRAs):
A GRA is an academic appointment focused onthesis or other degree-related research of a type that is required from all candidates for the degree. The research project for a GRA directly supports the student’s thesis or dissertation.

Because a student devotes considerable time to thesis or dissertation research, the time devoted to the graduate research assistantship is expected to be significant.
Research assistantships(RAs):
An RA is an academic appointment for research that is not directly thesis-related, 15 to 20 hours per week, averaging no more than 15 hours per week. For example, a RA appointment might include data analysis on a faculty research project not directly related to the student’s dissertation topic. As with otherassistantships, there is no separate application. Students are appointed by departments, fields, or individual faculty.
Graduate Assistantships (GAs):
A GA also can be related to doing work in other departments not related to thesis or projects for your course work.
*. Sample Admission Letter with Graduate Assistantship
Example – Data analysis on a faculty research project not directly related to the student’s dissertation topic.
Working in Computer Labs of other departments.
Fellowships
Fellowships are generally merit-based awards intended to support a student in a full-time course of study.
This includes stipend and Tuition Waiver.
Students are not required to work like TA’s and GA’s in this case.
Students are not required to pay back the money.
Fellowships and Scholarships sometimes refers the same, but there could be fine distinctions between them.
Comparing this to student loan, where it has to to paid back with interest, with fellowships there are no obligation for students to pay back the money.

GRE RUMOURs

Many rumours about gre developed, everytime it changes the pattern!!
In the old pattern GRE,there have been many complaints that testtakers posted questions of their gre test...which was later used by others...advantage for new testtakers.
Also there was a legal fight between ETS and KAPLAN on the same above issue, though it has been resolved!
GRE has been found difficult especially for asian population...it has been proved through many score evidences!
Raw score estimate has remained a secret for decades of ets journey!
Many a times, low scores were reported from (2)countries....
Gre exam can be forged or faked in some countries.
But remember 1thing about ETS,inspite of all the difficulties it was the leading testgiving company!

BEWARE of ExPERIMENTAL SECTION!!

In actual GRE your final score is assessed on the performance of 2verbal and 2quant sections!!
In addition to this 4 sections,an additional section is present!!
Dummy section is just to test your patience and no marks are awarded!
But some people like me mistake the real section with dummy and loose marks which finally affects ur chances of good score!!

So please people,be careful with this section and pay the equal importance and concentration as much the others!!

How to score above 300 in gre?

Its not impossible to score above 300 marks in GRE!
But i also say its not so easy!!
To score above 300.follow as below:
1.Make sure you complete atleast 1500 gre words including high frquency words.
2.for verbal practise,allot atleast 2-3hrs daily!
3.Quant score has to be consistently 30+,whatever the practise test you take!
4.concentrate more on text completion and sentence equivalence rather than reading comprehension.
5.Pay more attention for data intrepretation problems!
6.target for verbal 140-145 and quant 155-160 for achieving 300+ scores!

How to register for gre?

You need to register yourself before taking GRE exam!
For that;you have to create an account of yourself!
Visit;-www.ets.org!!
Fill in all the details name address course name mother nd father educational qualification etc!!
After creating an account successfully, you can book ur exam!!
GRE Exam costs about 150-175$ depending upon the country!!
Payment must be done online!
Credit card master card !

ETS Powerprep

Ets provides a set of 2 exams which resembles exactly as the real gre exam!!
It has been proved many intances that powerprep scores are a approximate forecast of actual gre!!
Score of powerprep has a deviation +-3marks with the actual gre scores!!
Practise powerprep taking it seriously with timed sessions!!
It helps you prepare for the actual gre!!
So i conclude that powerprep gives u the nearest possible real gre score!

10days preparation for gre?

Most of the Indian students face this problem! Especially engineering students, so there is a need for effective and smart plan preparation! Students without any coaching You people have to spend 8-10hours/day for practising verbal and quant! An additional 1-2hrs on assessing each days work! Try to takeup atleast 5mocks tests before you take tha actual exam! Students with coaching you can spent utmost 5-6hrs daily practising the coaching material! Atleast takeup3mock tests before 3days of the actual gre!

Thank you America! This is for you

I thought of intending to limit the blog upto south-asian countries! But the response from UsA made me to widen the horizon! As known students from English Speaking Countries have quite good vocabulary, its not a great deal of gre english to master it! They face problem with Quantitative! As of gre, quant is mostly of high school math,it wont be difficult to score 35/40! Be strong with 1.Arithmetic 2.Probability 3.Geometry 4.Data interpretation so takeup the formulas and build ur own concepts and problems! Follow any Gre standard textbook thoroughly! Prefer Barrons gre, TMH gre and Kaplan gre! Barrons would be the best of the choice!

whats the ideal time for gre preparation?

Many of you people might be taking coaching usually lasting for 45days. I can assure that 50% of the preparation is completed from coaching itself! Rest 50% depends on how well you practise and master the skills required for gre! After coaching 'a 30days prepartion is more than sufficient'! Provided you study 4-6hrs each day strictly upto 5days before the exam! Each day preparation hours may increase for a person with weak vocabulary!

Best techniques to remember gre-words?

This is the greatest problem by anyone appearing for the gre toefl etc! Although remembering a set of 3000words is difficult,i think its not impossible!! Start with high frequency word lists and go with majortests.com worldlists! 1.learn words mostly at the time ur very active.(prefer early morning) 2.follow mnemonic methods to remember! 3.roots words-best way to remember atleast 300 words at a time! 4.word groups! 5.discuss words with ur frnds and associate typical words with them!

From where to Learn gre words?

Actually gre conducted by ets suggests to learn words nearly 4000+. Practically this is not feasible and not hence not advised! Follow 1.wordslists from majortests.com 2.barrons high frequency(333) words. 3.princeton word-roots sets! If you follow the above thats more than enough, and you will land urself in a good place!

Best online exams provider for gre?

Guess u people might be following many sites but i suggest you to stick upon 1.
best online exams provider;
1.Greguide.com
2.mygretutor.com
3.magoosh.com
4.mnemonicdictionary.com
5.thesaurus.com

My personal suggestion is you better follow mygretutor.com.in this you will be provided 4full course practise exams.also a whole set of words practise and sentence completion, text completion.

which is best institute for gre?

I have seen several students struggle to make a decision of joining in a institute for gre coaching.
Myself i was in a great situation of confusion.
Understanding this problem, and after myself facing the situation, i came to decision of ranking the gre institutes in Hyderabad.

Different Gre coaching institutes in Hyderabad are:
1.Princeton review
2.Manhatten Review
3.Krupa Coaching ( Krupa Shankar sir)
4.Visu international
5.Time
6. Dr.Raju

The admin had took up coaching in visu international ,Tarnaka and found to be less worthy.
so people in choosing a institute be careful because a good guidance and coaching can place you in a better situation.
1.Check for the faculty.
2.Check for the duration of the course i.e 45days mostly(minimum)
3.Check the quality of the material i.e ask any of your friends(i suggest princeton and visu).
4.Check for availability of online exams from institutes(i suggest princeton and manhatten).

Introduction

Gre world is the  blog intended to help the students who takeup gre and other exams like toefl, ielts etc.
Blog is created keeping in view the need of proper information dispersal for students.
Gre world differs other blogs alot because it is administered by a person who has took gre and toefl and faced a similar sort of problems such as lack of information, which material is the best etc.
so everyone who takeup gre can go through once the blog and get as much information as possible.
All the posts by the administrator are totally dependent on asian conditions especially india, pakistan, bangladesh etc.
